The Eurovision Spotlight - The Eurovision 2025 Land in Regions:  All countries have now selected their entry to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 and with this marking the end of the National Final Season 2025 and the start of the Pre-Party Season where the artists promote their entries to the fans at e.g. Eurovision in Concert in Amsterdam, Madrid Pre-Party, London's Preview Event, MancHagen, The Nordic Eurovision PreParty and Eurovision Party SKG in Greece.

36 countries are taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 which will be taking place on 13 and 15 May 2024 for the two Semi Finals and the Grand Final on 17 May 2025. Radio International split the Eurovision Land 2025 into geographical regions North, East, South, West, Central, etc and each week the Radio International Eurovision experts are selecting one region playing the 2025 Eurovision entries. Alasdair Rendall will be continuing the series looking at the Southern Countries' entries for this year.

MEET THE EUROSTARS 2025 - Interview with Emmy (Ireland 2025):  During the Melodifestivalen 2025 Grand Final Week the OGAE of Sweden organised the fantastic MelFestWknd 2025 in Nalen of Stockholm where national and international media could meet the attending artists. On the guest lists among other were also Emmy who although being Norwegian will represent Ireland the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 with the song "Laika Party".

MEET THE EUROSTARS 2025 - Interview with Melody (Spain 2025): The 15th edition of Eurovision in Concert took place on 05 Apr 2025 from Amsterdam's AFAS LIVE venue with acts from 30 countries that are competing at the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 to showcase their entries to the 6000 plus Eurovision Fans that arrived to watch the performances. Before the concert there was a Media Event where national and internationrepresentatives of the media could meet the artists and conduct short interviews. Radio International's Salman and JP were on location and conducted interviews with some of the artists you will hear on Radio International over the weeks to come.

This week listen to an interview with the Spanish Ambassador to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 - the Winner of the Beniform Fest: Melody who will be representing Spain at Eurovision 2025 with the song "Esa Diva" which is directly qualified for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 on 17 May.

(Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025)

Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025 - Interview with Marc Anthony Bartolo On Sat. 08 Feb 2025 Miriana Conte and her song "Kant" (now "Serving")  was selected by the jury and Maltese public to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contetest 2025 in Basel in May. Radio International conducted interviews with all the contestants at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025 and more. Over the next weeks you will hear these interviews on Radio International's weekly dose. This week in the spotlight is a veteran to the Malta Eurovision Song Contest:  Marc Anthony Bartolo who performed "Hideaway" in the contest ranking 11th at the end of the voting sequence in the Grand Final. Interview with The Busker (Malta 2023) at Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025:  Radio International met two of the three members of the Maltese Group the Busker who represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool with the song "Dance our own party". Both members of the group wrote two competing songs for other Maltese artists that took part at the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025. JP caught up with the Busker just after the Semi Final in front of the stage. Enjoy this interview on the show this week.

 

 

Sami Grand Prix 2025: The Sámi Grand Prix is a Sámi yoik and song competition organized annually by the Sámi Music Festival organization featuring participants from all corners of the Sami Land. While the majority of its participants have been from the Norwegian side of Sápmi, Sámi from the Swedish, Finnish, and Russian sides have been increasingly participating in recent years too.

Each participant submits an original piece to be performed live in an auditorium in Kautokeino during the Sámi Easter Festival. Originally broadcast on the radio in a limited area, they have started to be shown on TV and livestreamed as well and can be watched from anywhere in the world. Listeners and viewers can cast their vote for their favorites in two categories. A combined televoting and jury result is calculated for each participant. The televotes and the jury votes each currently count for 50% of the participant's scores. The participants who receive the most votes in the song category and in the yoik category are declared the winners of these respective categories. It all started way back in 1990 and the 2025 edition of te Sami Grand Prix takes place on Saturday, 12 Apr 2025 and can be followed on the Swedish Broadcaster SVT, Norwegian Broadcaster NRK and Finish Broadcaster YLE.

Through the Summer 2023 with Radio International - The Ultimate Eurovision Experience:  The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 was staged in Liverpool last May with Sweden's Loreen winning the contest for a second time after her victory in 2012 with the song "Euphoria". Her winning song for 2023 is "Tattoo". Radio International has still a number of interviews from the contest and the pre-events which will be shared during the next few summer weeks of 2023. 

This week we have interviews with three Eurovision Stars. Marc Roberts represented Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 1997 coming second to UK's Katrina and the Waves with the brilliant "Love shine a light". The Irish entry was "Mysterious Woman".  Then some 20 years on Claudia Faniello represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Breathlessly". She had a number of great successes in the Malta Eurovision Selection shows. Our third artist represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 - It's Ari Olafsson singing the song "Our Choice". All three acts were invited guests at the recent 7th edition of Eurostarz in Concert in London's Water Rats Pub and JP had the pleasure to interview all three and Radio International is glad to share the interviews on the show this week. Enjoy!

LIVE Interview with Eurovision Winner Charlie McGettigan (Ireland 1994): Radio International - The Ultimate Eurovision Experience is delighted to welcome to the show Charlie McGettigan who together with his singing partner Paul Harrington won the Eurovision Song Contest 1994 for Ireland with the song "Rock'n Roll Kids". It was Ireland's 6th victory and on home turf since in the 90s Ireland won the Eurovision Song Contest four times (1992, 1993, 1994 and 1996). Charlie kindly accepted our invitation to come onto the show to chat about Eurovision and his career. Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021:  Junior Eurovision 2021 will take place in Paris, France on 19 Dec 2021 after the victory of  Valentina with the song "J'Imagine" in 2020 for France. The song was written by Barbara Pravi who came second at the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. The 19th edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest will be staged on 19 December 2021 with 19 countries taking part:  Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, France, Georgia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Malta, The Netherlands, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Spain and Ukraine.

Hosts and Venue:  The venue is La Seine Musicale, Paris, France and the hosts are Elodie Gossuin, Olivier Minne and Carla

As most of the countries have already selected their entry to the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2021, Radio International will get the fans in the mood introducing the songs to the audience but also playing some of the highlights of the previous editions of the contest.

Maltese Glen Vella's Eurovision Top Ten:  During the first quarter of 2021 which was when Europe experienced the Corona Lockdown Radio International invited Eurovision personalities to co-host an hour with JP together and to present their ten most favourite songs from the Eurovision Song Contest. this week JP is joined by Maltese singer Glen Vella.  Glen represented Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 with the song "One Life" in Duesseldorf, Germany. In March 2021 he won Muzika Muzika which is a song contest in Maltese celebrating Maltese music. We are thrilled to find out how Glen's Top Ten of the Eurovision Song Contest looks like.
