The Eurovision Spotlight - The National Final Season: The National Final Season for the Eurovision Song Contest is almost over this week with awaiting the release of the Eurovision entries from a couple of countries.  36 countries are taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 which will be taking place on 13 and 15 May 2024 for the two Semi Finals and the Grand Final on 17 May 2025. Radio International will be taking a look at the national finals and showcase the highlights every week in the Eurovision Spotlight as Alasdair Rendall continues the series looking at the countries' selection shows of the past week.

 

Melodifestivalen 2025 - The Grand Final:  "Sverige, vi har ett resultat"  On Saturday, 08 Mar 2025 the Grnd Final of  Melodifestivalen 2025 took place in the Strawberry Arena in Solna near Stockholm. At the end of the voting sequence Finnish trio KAJ were announced to be the winner of Melodifestivalen 2025 with the song "Bara Bada Bastu" and with this Sweden's representatives to the Eurovision Song Contest 2025.

Melodifestivalen is the biggest National Final selection process in the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. It is the 65th edition and is produced by Swedish broadcaster SVT. 30 entries out of 2794 submitted songs made it to the shows. The 30 entries will take part in the competition across five heats. Each heat consists of six songs, with the top two songs directly qualifying for the final. Unlike in the previous edition, only the third-placing song will proceed to a final qualification round at the end of the fifth heat, which will now feature five songs instead of ten. Two songs in the final qualification will then progress to the final, which will comprise of 12 songs. The winner of the final will be determined by the usual 50/50 combination of votes from the public and an international jury. All shows were hosted by Edvin Törnblom and Kristina "Keyoo" Petrushina.

Melodifestivalen 2025 Grand Final Interviews:  During the rehearsal for the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2025, JP, Marc and Salman, the Radio International Interview Team was on location in the Strawberry Arena to conduct interview with more participating artists in the 2025 edition of Melodifestivalen. Martina Fenech winning the FANvision Song Contest 2024 for Malta

Eurovision Weekend 2024 - We have a Winner: The Eurovision Weekend 2024 took place from 12 - 14 Jul 2024 in Hamburg with a great programme of the many national and international fans that arrived from all over Europe to take part in this event. Special guests were Luna (Poland 2024), Hera Bjoerk (Iceland 2010 and 2024) and Jendrik (Germany 2021) who each gave a concert to the many fans. The Eurovision Weekend 20204 included the FANvision Song Contest 2024 with a record of 16 countries that took part in this singing competiion. The Winner of the FANvision Song Contest 2024 is once again Malta with Martina Fenech who performed Austria's winning song of 2014 by Conchita Wurst "Rise like a Phoenix".   Congratulations Martina. Malta previously won this competition with Sebastian Calleja's cover of "Golden Boy" which was by Nadav Guedj representing Israel.

Salman and Frank, who are the Prime Organisers of the Eurovision Weekend will be joining JP once again in the studio for a look back as well as the Winning Act Martina Fenech for a look back over the weekend in Hamburg.

Luna at the Media Conference of the Eurovision Weekend 2024

Interview with Luna (Poland 2024): This week's interview with a Eurovision acts that as been on stage of the Eurovision Song Contest is LUNA who represented Poland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song "The Tower" and ended up at Number 12 in Semi Final 1.
Luna was one of the special guests invited to the Eurovision Weekend 2024 in Hamburg on 13 Jul 2024. Radio International's JP had the pleasure to meet Luna for an interview after the events Media Conference. You can hear this interview on the show this week.

Interview with Klara Hammarström (Melodifestivalen 2021 and 2022): The Interview Team of Radio International had the pleasure to meet Klara Hammarström at the 2024 edition of Sweden's Melodifestivalen. Klara competed a few times in Sweden's Contest to select that song that represents Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest. It was in 2021 when she made it to the Grand Final of Melodifestivalen with the song "The Beat of Broken Hearts" and in 2022 "Run to the Hills". Both songs ended up Number 6 in the Grand Final.

Live Interview with Intelligent Music Project (Bulgaria 2022): As over the past weeks the participating countries in the Eurovision Song Contest selected their entries to the contest in Turin, Italy. Radio International has reached out to many countries to invite their "Musical Ambassadors" for an interview on show.
Joining us this week on the Radio International Interview Hour is The Intelligent Music Project who will be representing Bulgaria at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Bulgaria will start in Semi Final 1 First Half with the song "Intention". The Radio International Interview Team is looking forward to be chatting with members of the group during the show as well as finding out more about the group and their music.

Melodifestivalen 2022 Interviews with Tone Sekelius, Liamoo and Klara Hammarström: Sweden's Biggest and Best TV Show Melodifestivalen ended on Saturday 12 Mar 2022 with the Grand Final after funneling down the 28 entries via four heats, two semi finals and the Grand Final. Swedish broadcaster SVT received way over 2000 songs for the 2022 edition of Melodifestivalen which on Saturday was won by Cornelia Jakobs with the song "Hold me closer" and will be representing Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Semi Final 2 Second Half. The Radio International Interview Team was in Stockholm, Sweden and interviewed all the contestants of Melodifestivalen plus more.

This week on Radio International hear the interviews with more finalists of Melodifestivalen 2022. Newcomer Tone Sekelius (Melodifestivalen 2022, Number 5) perfoming "My Way", then previous finalists Liamoo (Melodifestivalen 2018, 2020 and 2022, Number 4) "Bluffin" and Klara Hammarström (Melodifestivalen 2020, 2021 and 2022,, Number 6) "Run to the Hills".
